Music sites
« on: June 15, 2007, 01:20:50 »
I like listening to music while pulling weeds and wondered if anyone knows of a music site where I can download music straight to my mobile phone.
I'm a boring old fart so I like rock n roll, but can't find any sites that do anything before the 70's.
Also, I don't mind paying for what listen to but don't want a subscription

Thanks for reading this ;)

Sorry scotch,
Don't have a mobile - don't see a reason for 'em.
Now if you want to download music - I do that very well & at little cost, if any-----

Hi tellboy,
              That would be great, Thanks.
I haven't got any music on the pc as I didn't know how to do that either :P
I'm techno idiot, but am trying to grasp the bull by the horns.
I figure that if I can download onto the computer then I can then go from puter to mobile phone.
At the minute I just run an extention cable from the socket on the outside of the shed to the cd player and turn it up loud enough to listen to ;D
but  thought I could give the neighbours a break if I listen through headphones on the mobile

You could download your own CD's into your puter and then via USB port to phone.
I hear there's a site called 'Limewire' which has downloadable music but not sure if it's legal so I obviously don't go there..

Once you have the music in MP3 format on your PC you should be able to upload it via a USB cable, probably provided in the phone box, or by Bluetooth is your on a laptop.

Getting music on your PC depends on if your doing it honestly or sneaky. You can either RIP your physical Cd's onto your machine, purchase and download music from places like itunes and others, or there are many peer2peer applications (Limewire, Bearshare, Kazaa, etc)which will allow you to connect to a sharing network to share music with others.

I maybe wrong but I think Kazaa has been shut down. Bearshare is similar but a ripoff.

True

Kazaa keeps being shut down by the CIA and RIAA. but as soon as one version gets shuts down the next opens..

Kazaa became Kazaa lite
Kazaa lite because Kazaa K++
Kazaa K++ is now Kazaa Lite Resurrection

It a ongoing chase.

There are many applications that will let you access P2P networks.

Bearshare is similar but a ripoff.
I use bearshare and it costs me nothing. But then I'm only after older stuff, not the ringtones that have a Golden CD symbol. (Or what they call bearshare premium, I believe)
Grow your own and enjoy the fruits of your labours,

Don't bother with Limewire, or Kazaa etc they are too many viruses knocking about, easily the best way of getting music, videos etc is to use torrents. You need a bit torrent client I use Bit Comet. You download a torrent file to your client and away you go. Two of the best sites are
demonoid  http://www.demonoid.com/files/  but you may need an invite to that site, i may have some spare. The other good site is PirateBay  http://thepiratebay.org/    which the american goverment keeps trying to close down but hasn't  :) It lost it's case in a court of law  ;D ;D ;D
There are many specialist sites live music for example.

The torrent community is one that shares and if you download it is polite to upload, that way everybody can download at a decent speed  :D :D

Of course we don't recommend the use of any of these sites as it's illegal :)

Thats a common misconception  :) Using the sites is not illegal but what you download may not be legal for you to do so.

Hi Emmy, the file you downloaded from piratebay is not the actual music/video it's really a kind of instruction (it's to make downloads quicker and safer) You will need to download a piece of software to understand the torrent file you got from piratebay, i use Bit Comet which you can get from here

http://www.bitcomet.com/doc/download.htm

Download and install the software. When you download a file from a torrent site (piratebay etc) it will either ask you to put in a folder or it will open the BitComet automatically. If you are asked to put in a folder create one where can find it easily, save the file there then open the folder, open bitcomet and drag the torrent file to bitcomet you will be asked which files contained in the torrent you wish to download (tracks, cover art etc) select which you want then click ok. If it opens up bitcomet then you just have to choose which you want to download.
If you still have a problem i can send you some screen shots explaining it all.

And for those interested in how it works...

;D ;D ;D that was my thoughts too emmy  :P

Seriously though guys, I really do apprieciate the help.

I borrowed my friends teenager last week and after asking him the stupidest questions in the world, I managed to get him to translate (into very simple language) how to get my cd's on to computer.
Managed to do that, got the cd that came with the phone on BUT
can't get the d***ed music on to the phone via the usb cable  ??? :P
I don't have a laptop so bluetooth is out ???
I'm going to highjack the poor sod again tomorrow night.

IN the mean time I'm going to try the links from legendaryone and read through
his last post again, and try some of the sites suggested ,

I'll let you know how I get on. 8)

I have been using Limewire for ages and  get all my Rock and Roll music from it.They have everything on there you could want from oldies to the modern *rap stuff.Easy to d/load as well................must be if i can do it.Ok you get the odd  corrupt file now  and again but the anti-virus stops them d/loading so touch wood never had a problem.
