flooding........part 2
« on: June 26, 2007, 17:30:41 »
hi all.................
dont know if the rest of you are as bad as us lot up here.........but this time its a bad un!
weve had houses just up the road evacuated...............boats floating down high streets................town center cut off and loads of people moved out for safty reasons.............
sheffield..just up river from us are having it bad..............and its all gotta come our way!
hope you are ok over hull area jeannine.i hear its pretty grim out that way too.........
given up all hope on the plot now for this year........it will give me the chance to hopefully concentrate on building my fruit area and stuff like that.
thats if the shed and greenhouse survive this latest flood............its not looking good tho........its the worst ive seen the river in my lifetime..........and as the allotments are right behind the houses that were evacuated early this morning.its gonna be touch and go for us..............as we are slightly downhill from those already evacuated.
going up later with the camera................will post pics!

Hi MM, I have posted on another topic started, our lottie shot

Yes we are in that position, everything has gone now, no plot of this year I am certain of that.

The school I work in in under water by at least a foot.

That's it Lorna, I walked through water thigh deep today through the estate I work on to check on a couple of families , there is nothing on my lottie that matters when you see this devestation, and so many are not insured, they simply cannot afford it.

I agree with Lorna, at the end of the day it's the people that really matter - so keep yourselves well  :)

Amazing how cheerful & uncomplaining the oldies were on TV.

Thank God we live on a hillside.

That amazed me too Tim. True British grit to keep smiling through it all while you're looking at your ruined house and there's 3 feet of water outside.

Computer's been down for a few days and I've been thinking about all of you up there. Been watching open mouthed at events on the news. Take care. XXXXXXXXX

:-[ I spoke to my friend this morning.....I couldn't get hold of her at all yesterday.....she has been evacuated to Don Valley School.......her house is under 4-5ft of water.............she's devastated  :-[  she said she and OH just hugged and cried looking at there house.........

they may seem cheerful and uncomplaining ..........but when the waters subside and it's months before they can get back in there homes...then it will hit them I'm sure.......... :-[

I passed families yesterday as they had just left their homes.........children still in Jim jams........stood looking disheveled............they looked like they did not know where too go, or what to do..it was heartbreaking...........many of them won't have insurance either

police came to our house again last night.....we are still on a severe flood alert..........it's just a waiting game.....we just don't want any more rain please........ :'(

I remember when my brother who lives 10 miles away (Wisbech) rang me to say they were put in the local school as their house had been flooded. Couldn't use his car the water had entered his engine. Charlie  just said "I am on my way" so they came to us, parents and 2 children. They were lucky enough to have somewhere to go and the use of one of our vehicles but for those who have nowhere to go must be awful. I just hope that things get better but I know the "clear up" time is just devastating.  Stay safe people.

Wilko, that's just terrible.  :( Thinking of you all. You're right. It's one thing dealing with the event but quite another with the years of clean up ahead.

Reminds me of the time a hollow opposite the flats where I used to live flooded in a downpour. Buses could get through, and 99% of the other traffic took the grass verges. Now and then some idiot tried to go straight through, and always came to a grinding halt at the deepest spot.

My half plot at the top of the hill don't seem so bad now. I hated it last year when the winds blew my new greenhouse away. I don't think we will ever beat mother nature. We just have to work around her and hope that we don't get caught out.I do feel very sorry for those of you who have suffered the most during this bad weather. Lets hope it stops very soon

The water level has gone down in our school and we were able to get in today.Everything is ruined, everything. It is impossible to describe. There is a muddy smelly sludge over everything. It has to be decontaminated before we can even get in to assess. Crisis meeting tomorrow. XX Jeannine
