Liquorice Wine
« on: June 08, 2004, 14:32:03 »
I saw liquorice sticks (the real ones) in the shops and thought it might be a good idea. I was going to try and boil out the taste from them and take it from there.
Any ideas or recipes? (i could find none in books or the net)

Sorry - can't help with the recipe at all, and this is way off-topic.

But if you ever get the chance to visit Pontefract Castle, (http://www.wildyorkshire.co.uk/naturediary/docs/pomfmap.html)
grab it - especially on a Sunday or Bank Holiday.  They used to grow loads of liquorice there, and you can visit the cellar/dungeon/much-used-hole-in-the-ground - and the guide is the most magical story-teller I've come across.  Kept an audience of 5-75 year olds bewitched - for way beyond the allotted time for the tour!

All best - Gavin
