Gooseberries
« on: June 26, 2007, 11:34:18 »
I am thinking of buying some gooseberry bushes in November.
However I have never eaten a lot of varieties, I am thinking of growing some of :-
black velvet, whinham's industry,Leveller, langley gage, Hinnomaki Yellow, Hinnomaki Red,Whitesmith and Dan's Mistake.  Can I buy these fruits from somewhere ?

Also where is a good place to plant them to stop mildew ?  The drierest and hottest parts of the garden ?

Not the hottest driest bit... mildew is worst when the soil is dry(at the roots) but the air is damp... if you can keep the roots damp you should be reasonably mildew free.

Surely in that case i want to keep them some where sunny (ie dry air) and water them regularly ?
