Hi everyone, Ive been having a look around the forum and it seems like a really friendly and helpful resource!
Anyway, as the title suggests, I've just started out growing things to eat at my parents house, mainly little experiments, before i move to my new house in Newcastle Upon Tyne.
Current works in progress are shallots, clarion lettuce, two rocket varieties, two chilli varieties and two pepper varieties. I have had the lettuce and rocket in for about a month, maybe five weeks, and the shallots, chillies and peppers in for about two weeks. I have also planted some cuttings from our rosemary bush.
So, i thought I'd introduce myself before i ask any questions. I have a blog at
http://theamatteurgardener.blogspot.com/
where I'm charting my trials and tribulations, please feel free to peruse and point out anything I'm doing wrong! I may well have specific questions soon, especially regarding my lettuce, but until then i will continue to develop my knowledge by reading through the forum.
Glad to have found you all.
Take care
Matt

Welcome Matt! Hope you find lots of useful stuff here.
Great blog with nice pics, we love pics here. Lots of us garden small-scale and it's amazing how much you can get out of a small patch.

Cold up there in Newcastle for most of the year ain't it. My son moved up to Co Durham a few years ago. We couldn't believe how cold it was. His garden is way behind ours in the midlands. I suppose its a blessing sometimes especially when we have really hot weather like we did this Spring cos the plants don't know where they are with weather like that. Keep up the good work

Hi Matt, welcome from another couple of newbies! Nice here aint it! :) You mentioned rain ? lol i'm on a long weekend and just had a weather warning for Cornwall of very heavy rain. :( But the gardens need it badly :) Erected a new shed and placed a bath alongside it to catch rainwater within 36 hrs the bath was full. So was a bath i'm growing butternut squash in (the plughole was blocked) and the squash were floating around like waterlilies. OK time to go regards from Mark and Helen.
