Dried chick peas,runner bean seeds

(1/2) > >>

Hyacinth:
Just wondered - anyone got any really nice recipes for using chick peas up? Know I could 'google' but wondered if anyone has come across anything other than curry or that dip thingy which are the only ways I know?

Runner bean seeds - Bob Flowerdew says that he treats them as any other dried legume and adds them to soups, casseroles, etc..anyone done this? would the 10 mnt. fast-boil rule apply? And, again, anything more inspiring than soup, etc?  Ta, Lish

Yo Lishka

From the middle east (very topical today  ;) )

6 med toms skinned and chopped, olive oil, 2 med onions chopped, 4 cloves garlic finely chopped, chick peas (cooked of course!) 4tbs finely chopped parsley, 1/2 tsp thyme, salt (to taste)

Heat oil fry onions & garlic until soft. add toms and then other ingredients, bring to boil, cover, simmer 15 mins.

Or from India, hot and spicy (bit like me  ;) )

Oil, 2 med onions, finely chopped, 8 cloves garlic ditto, 1 tbsp ground coriander seeds, 2 tsp ground cumin seeds, 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper, 1 tsp tumeric, 6 tbsp finely chopped toms, chick peas, 2 tsp roasted cumin seeds, 2 tsp paprika, 1 tsp garam masala, 1 tbsp lemon juice, 1 fresh hot green chillie, 2 tsp finely grated ginger.

Stir fry onions and garlic, add coriander, cumin, cayenne, turmeric.  Stir and cook few secs.  Add toms, cook till amalgamated.  Add peas and 8 fl oz water.  Sitr, add roasted cumin, paprika, garaam masala, salt, lemon juice.  Cover simmer for 10.   Remove cover.  Add chillie & ginger.  Cook 1 min.  Flavour will improve if refrigerated 24 hrs.

Good with bread and garlic yoghurt!
