I have just received some new seeds and wondered if anyone has any experience with any of them.

Aunt Ruby's German Green(I promised a few of these to someone ages ago,remind me please as the first order didn't come.

and lastly, Garden Huckleberry

I grew Huckleberries a couple of years ago, but they look so much like deadly nightshade nobody was brave enough to try them!  Lovely plants, but nothing ate the berries, not even the birds!

Only Kellogg`s Breakfast-big orange ones. They are available from `Plants of Distinction` They were good but I haven`t grown them for a couple of years as I am working my way through the catalouge.

Well you have put me off the Huckleberries I think.

Victory Seeds in Oregon is were the last lot came from,nice site.

The Rattlesnake are beans,pretty little ones a bit like Pintos.

The Snowcap are gorgeous looking ,they look like they have been handpainted, half white down the long edge and the other half a streaked coffee brown.

I want to find a really pretty bottle or jar and fill it with assorted beans .

In the meantime I will go and ring the counsellor

Jeannine, if you go back into my website www.growingyourown.info I have covered Huckleberries, I think under fruit. I made jam with mine and now I come to think about it, there is a jam recipe on my site under recipes.
I tried them as I have fond memories of Huckleberry Finn, but they must do other things with them over in North America.

:-[ Oh dear, a slight clanger!! I started to shift the entry for Huckleberry from the vegetables to fruit and have not finished it. Well, I am still testing the site! There is still a brief mention of Huckleberry under seeds, but the description itself seems to have got lost.
While it grew well in Glasgow and ripened, I was not very thrilled with the taste. Huckleberries are very low in acid and pectin, and you need to add lemons to compensate for the lack of acid.
The central stem is topped with the branches growing out horizontally for a couple of feet in all directions. It is a bit late now to sow the seed for this year. It is an annual. You need to start in March in heat, as it needs a long growing season in this country. I know it grows in Canada, but their summers are hotter than ours.
