Most good insects in-flight pics are caught by either multi-frame shooting, (several shots per second) or pure good luck. Seldom are caught by the amateur carrying a camera on a walk.
If this one is a 'lucky-one-shot' then it's a cracker!
Bees fly slow and with a little patience it is possible to catch some quite remarkable shots of them at work, but the pic's seen here show not only that, they show some quite remarkable close-up detail...and in focus! Point of focus is bang on the bee's head...that's good, the flower is the second focus object which is where the bee is heading, again, spot on...the depthe of field throws the background out od focus but still shows that it belongs to the scene. I like it a lot.
If I was a wildlife magazine editor I wouldn't hesitate in placing these pictures in my publication.
I'd love to see more like pic's on insects going about their everyday work.
Absolute cracking photo Leg'. Well done....Got any more?
PS. Camera/Lens info? (My guess is an 18-56mm used pretty close to subject?)

By the way, this is NOT a 'Fun' pic. It belongs in the 'Gallery' section.

Thanks for your kind words KenKew, i would love to say i tracked this bee for hours climbing over hill and dale dragging a broken leg behind me to get this one shot but i can't :D I like to take close up pics of insects and i was just lucky, i do take a lot of pics in the hope i will get it lucky. The camera i use is a Fujifilm S602. It is several years old but the reason i bought it was because of its great macro (2 actually) I've scratched the lense and dropped it twice onto hard gravel roads but it still keeps giving me great shots. I'll see if i can find a few more shots, i do have some great ones of dragon flies.

Here is a photo of a damsel fly, it is a common blue damsel fly. I used to go for walks at the local nature reserve but since getting the allotment i haven't been as much but i do have some good pics and this is one of them. :)

Yes, Common blue and a beauty, one dodged me last week in the garden, got a great picture of a leaf, tho!
Looks very much like the Azure and the Variable but you're correct with your naming.
Was that the same camera?

Same camera, it took me a while to find a website which had good photos on so i could identify them. I found bees damsel/dragonflies and hoverflies are my best subjects, they really don't seem to mind how close i get. Now i don't spend so much time walking in the countryside i am having to take advantage of my time in the allotment taking pictures of the insects there.

I go walkabout for 6/10kms every day but there's not much countryside in these parts, hence my 'want' to get back to the UK....occasionally I do spot the odd bit of wild-life but it's few and far between.
Nice pic of your 'blue'.
I wonder if there's call for a pic site with A4A people in mind for showing wild-life shots.

Fair pic, Sabre. I'm quite enjoying the idea of people getting out and about with a macro. (I'm guessing 90 or 100mm lens on a blustery day here?)
Next sunny day, Sabre...get out again...I'm waiting for more of the same.
Thanks for that one.

I always have lavander in the garden, and bees especially like the Atlas-broom (they seem to binge on the nectar).

I love insects in all their glory and these are wonderful pics... this summer so far seems to have thrown up very few butterflies (my favourite), I hope there will be a lot of them inbetween the raindrops!
