I used to have two allotments. Then the council decided to build some houses on the land. To compensate the holders they enlarged another allotment site. But I lost out on the draw and could only get a small plot so I gave it up.
That was 4 years ago since then I have been doing my back garden as a growing plot. It is not ideal for growing as it faces east, is shaded by trees most of the morning and by the house in the afternoon. Still I can get something out of it. The biggest problem was the slope and the fact that it was all infill with clay and boulders. I am getting there, if somewhat slowly ::)
The first plan was to build 4 retaining walls like in this picture.
That went out the window when I found out the cost of the stone.
So I decided on wooden terraces.
Just started making a new bed. You cannot make an omelet without breaking a few eggs ;)
