floating sloes !
« on: June 23, 2007, 11:42:47 »
:) Hi I have made some more sloe gin this week with sloes I had in the freezer, I've never made it with sloes that have been in the freezer before, and half of them are floating at the top of the jar! ??? is this because the sloes were frozen? ( I hasten to add, they were defrosted first)

and will it be OK?
Life is to short !!!

Doesn't matter.  If I've had to freeze sloes, I never defrost them before putting them in the gin anyway.

And you don't have to bother pricking them when they are frozen because they split when they defrost.

I have put them in fresh and some float.  I'm another who doesn't defrost first.  ;D

When I scroll down the front page I always read this as 'Floating Shoes'!

Can someone put a new recipe for drink up so I can stop hallucinating sandals and boots in a bottle of gin please!

Trixiebelle,
Not quite a new recipe, but last Autumn we made we made Blueberry Gin and Vodka, made it exactly the same way as for sloes,  turned out rather good, but as an extra, the berries afterwards made a fantastic dish with good quality Vanilla Ice cream.  We can't wait for next lot. NOT suitable for little people.
