How is you Okra this week?
« on: May 27, 2007, 15:43:42 »
I have 6 beautiful little very healthy plants, the important word in the statement is "little".  Bonsai Okra perhaps?

Saddad I do have 2 coming in the mail but wouldn't mind another or two. From your plant sale I think so more than happy to pay for them.  That would be just great XXX Jeannine

Hi this is the first time I have planted okra and have about 6 little seedlings... know nothing about it except it is good in curry.

Can this plant be grown outdoors once it is big enough? Is there any way to store okra, ie can they be dried and kept? Someone just gave me a packet of seeds so I am trying them out...Lin

I've got 10 plants, they haven't grown much recently, just acquired a couple more leaves.
They are about 6 inches tall.

I'm going to support the small plants when I put them outside with some short peasticks,
but do they need more support  when they are bigger?

I have some seeds but they are still in a packet. Can I still sow them?

I tried growing them a couple of times before but they had one flower and then died without setting a fruit!

My okra is almost gone. :'(
They were sown rather early and planted out about two weeks ago, during the hot and dry spell. At that time the 12 seedlings were 8 cm high with two real leaves.

Yesterday I saw that they have not recovered from the heavy rains and I suspect the slugs found them as well. They are in a sorry state and will probably not survive.

But some new seeds are sown and hopefully they will do better.

I can't answer any of your questions, apparently they are difficult to grow and there is a bit of a joke going around from Cleo that he will personally cook a meal on his home if anyone can do it LOL   Sorry Cleo. Apparently they start OK grow a while then stop , sometimes they start again, some times they just croak!! Mine are in the stopped and stuck mode again, this is the third time they have done this.

Okra is a swine to get to crop-and outside would be almost a miracle but I am as good as my word-what`s a meal and some hospitality ?-if anyone can give me the secret of getting them to crop well-I would gladly cook them for you  UK residents only  ;)

I planted 3 seeds from pass the parcel number 4.  One has grown and is now about 2" high.  Plan to pot it onto a bigger pot in a few days.  Thanks to the person who put it in the parcel.
