That's really lovely - any idea of the history?

This is going to be bugging me all day now!  ;D

Wonder if the hole at the top was to get the pony through? Doesn't look like it could go round the sides?

This is a well known bridge encountered on the Pennine Way ...(somewhere in Yorkshire)? It is alleged that the road was raised to remove the awkward dip, and the second arch appeared to be the most effective way to alter the bridge ...

That's the A59 crossing over the Leeds and Liverpool canal at East Marton.

Beautiful spot.

If I had have been offering a prize, Belinda would have won it. I've walked this part of the canal many times and this particular bridge, (known as double arched bridge, -what else?..!) is at East Marton.
Photo taken last year on my first full walk of the canel from Fouldridge to Skipton. 40 min's by car, 6 hours - nonstop walking - on foot!
Anyone fancy joining me this July on a repeat?

This is the signpost to the right of the bridge heading toward Skipton from Fouldridge.
