Asparagus seedlings.
« on: May 18, 2007, 22:51:52 »
I have grown some asparagus from seeds I got in a seed swap. They are in a seed tray, and are about 6 inches high.

Should I pot them on into 3 inch pots, or put them into their final positions. They took ages to germinate, I had given up on them.

Thanks

cj :)

I'd pot them on, probably twice this season to get a good root system started... put them out late season or early spring next year and not pick any next year!
It worked for my Convers Collossal that I grew from seed!

I did the same four years ago and we're eating them now.

You also want to start getting there finaly planting area ready before then with lots of maure, which is free draining so add sand.

If the final planting area is a raised bed, would well rotted manure and soil mixture be ok or would I still have to add sand?

Thanks
