Runner beans / French beans
« on: June 04, 2007, 13:28:23 »
I was just about to put in my bean plants and then I had second thoughts about where they were going.  So I thought I would ask a couple of questions first.  As I will be saving some of the beans at the end of the season for growing next year, can I grow runner beans (variety unknown) and dwarf French beans (Sprite) near each other?  Also, my neighbour is growing dwarf runner beans about 15 feet away from where I intended to put my runner bean wigwam.  Will his effect mine?  I thought I had my planting plan all arranged quite early this year, but now depending on your answers I may have to quickly start re-planning.

Many thanks.

As far as I know runner beans and French beans won't cross with each other. Runner Beans will cross with other runner beans. French beans generally just self pollinate, so your neighbours' French beans shouldn't affect yours.
