courgette - female flower, no males
« on: June 30, 2010, 09:57:27 »
One of my courgettes (it's definitely not the cavilli, but the yellow one!) has a female flower open, but none of the males is open yet. I've never had this before, normally it's all males and no females!

Is there anything I can do to save the courgette?

Or do I just give up on that one and wait for the many to come (I hope!)

It's the first and I've got rather excited about it!  ::)
gone to pot :D

I managed to beg a bit of pollen from a male flower from a neighbour last year.  It was right at the far end of the site and I carried the pollen on my finger and played at being a bee.   I am sure someone somewhere has too many males.  One of mine is covered in them.

You say that one of your courgettes has only female but what about the others.   The bees fly quite a long way, though not seen any pollen beetles this year yet.
