What have you lost?
« on: May 03, 2007, 12:16:43 »
I managed to bury my keys yesterday on the plot. Couldn't find them anywhere, had to resort to using a metal detector - found them in the end though, my Dad said I was like a terrier digging for them! I always seem to lose things over there, or rather 'misplace' ( :P) them and think I've brought them home, then I spend ages tearing the place apart only to find the suncream by the shed the next time I'm there...

Am I the only one with this infliction or are there OTHERS out there too....??!

I agree with losing your sense of time.

But also I think my dibber has legs. Whenever I put it down it walks away somewhere and I spend a couple of minutes trying to locate it. The trowel is the same although I did buy one with a bright orange handle so it has to find proper camoflage to really hide from me!

I did much the same with my keys once; they fell out of my pocket and totally disappeared. I got new ones cut, and finally found them three years later. They must have fallen into a bonfire I was having, looking at the state of them. They'd then become buried in thick couch grass, been dug up with the turf, and ended up in one of my soil mountains where I eventually found them.

Hopefully not lost in the garden but I just can't put my hands on a necklace at the moment.  I usually wear it during the summer months and have looked everywhere indoors.  I have just recently found the 3rd door key to my late mothers flat.  Found it in a pocket of a coat not worn since the colder weather.  I once lost my engagement ring and eternity ring.  Despite on the search for months I eventually reported them missing to the Insurance company.  I found the rings few days later inside a box of tights where I had hid them for safe keeping.  I would never find anything lost outside with the height of our weeds.... :-[ :-[

Whenever I go to the plot (and usually when working in the garden), I remove all jewellery except my watch. Actually I change my watch for a cheap one, just so I can keep an eye on the time since I have to be somewhere at a certain time most days (picking the OH up from work).

Since our plot is a secure site, and we need the gate key to get in or out, when I arrive at the carpark area, just off my plot and visible from there, I put the car and allotment keys in the glove box for safe keeping. So far it's worked OK for me. In fact I usually leave the boot lid open too.
I do agree however that various tools we all need around the plot when we're working, definitely seem to have the ability to wander away and hide.
Grow your own and enjoy the fruits of your labours,
Regards Alan.

ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING!

Lost my phone yesterday - only realised when I got home. Spent the best part of an hour looking for it.

Fortunately my mum rang me (usually it's an 'unfortunate' event - but this time it was fortunate) and I heard it's tinkling tones coming from the chicken shed.

Found a few unidentified numbers dialed on it was well. I reckon they'd been phoning Chicken Chatlines and surfing Poultry Porn sites. They all pretended to be asleep on the perch when I found the phone. Very suspicious indeed.

I once misplaced my 4yr old son as well. He was stuck up an apple tree.

 :D :D ;D

Would you believe it, I misplaced my keys again this afternoon, had a knock on the door to tell me someone had found them and were they mine, then back to the plot to retrieve them. They say things happen in threes said the lady with my keys... let's hope it doesn't apply to this!!

Glasses I am always losing glasses.  I only use cheapie magnifiers for close work  not regular ones yet but I am alwys misplacing them. I went into the Poundshop the day before yesterday and bought 8 identical pairs. Office, bedside, coffee table in living room, study, sewing room, handbag ,dashboard of the car and lottie.  The clerk  in Poundshop thought I was nuts.

I have already misplaced the office ones.

There must be at least 5 pairs of secateurs and several trowels somewhere in my garden! And it's not a big garden! ;D

I lost a watch when picking the runners in my first year on the plot. It was one of those silvery clip straps and reckon a jay or magpie made off with it as I never found it.  Proper leather strapped one now!  :)
If I ever get it all right - then that's the time to quit.

I too lost me mobley on the plot, and it rained overnight! :o :o  ( I don't get many calls on it so hadn't realised I had lost it!)
Was quite a paleaver to get me Mum to time it so that I was up there when it rang........found it, in one of my ditches, and miraculously it still worked!
Also forever loosing plant labels, I personally think the foxes pick em all out and hide them at night! ;D

Jeannine, it's my glasses too.  My lot get really fed up as I need them for driving and each time we come to go out I can't find them.  I come in and must take them off absent mindedly and can never find them.  I wish I could get them at the pound shop the same as you!

Manics, my mind too, especially when I am looking for my glasses!  But other things too, am forever going into the wrong room and wondering why I am there.  I have to have lists of jobs to do as I keep forgetting things.  Am alright when it comes to gardening though, thank goodness!  Obviously too rushed everywhere else but relaxed in the garden or at the lottie. ;)

Now way back in 2005 I thought it had a silver strap, but it didn't! If my memory serves me a little better I changed the linked strap as too much soil seemed to gather in it.

Sadly, a plotholder has lost his wedding ring but the metal detector guy dug this up, just by our head lady's plot, I must have been nattering for too long  ::)

Don't think I will get it going again though!

I dropped mobey on the lottie.  Knew it was there because I have been talking to someone.

Waited until after dark and very lucky it had falled face up and I could see the little flashes in the dark,

Actually I am always loosing things.  I try to buy fleeces with zip pockets.
