Courgettes
« on: May 24, 2004, 13:47:02 »
:) We have courgettes, fantastic!  On one plant we have about 4 formed with loads of future ones visible.  At present they are about 3"-4" long.

Quick question for the seasoned veg pickers, when can I harvest them is there a certain time or just when I want them?

Can't wait for some sauted corgettes..............

Les

Pick them at about 6" long. If you leave them too long they will form marrows and stop making more courgettes. You can pick them earlier if you want smaller fruits.

You can expect a lot of fruits from each plant so long as you pick them regularly. That can mean 2-3 times a week when they get going. It is amazing how fast they grow!!!

Blimey  :o Les, when did you sow them?  Mine are still only babies about to go out on the plot, I shan't expect to pick any for weeks and weeks yet.  Tut, feeling all left out now..... :'(

I don't know what I have done but they are in great form (apart from a few leaves on each plant turning yellow!-should I be concerned?)

We sowed them back in February and put them in the growbags about 4 weeks later, out of 4 plants there are only 2 which are still going the other 2 just never got past being seedlings.

I have some pictures of them which I will be putting on the a4a photo board as soon as I can.

mmmmmmmm courgettes! :D

All way ahead I have 2 tiny plants (plant those out in a week or 2) and just sowing my outdoor start seeds now.  I am mulching them all round with manure tho so maybe I'll catch up  :o

Mini courgettes with the flower still attached are to die for tho!!  ;D :P

I wonder if courgette's would take up too much space on the balcony?  ;D
Could you get them to climb up something?

Yes - if they are trailers. We always grow 'bush' to save on space that way. - Tim
