Topic: Where have all the plastic pots gone???

Can anyone please advise me on where I can buy some plastic pots, please? I have a lot of plants that need potting on but I don't have anything to pot them on into. My problem is that I can't find the right size. I have some pots that are 9cm diameter but only 7cm deep, which isn't enough.

  I also have here what I would always have said was the 'typical' size smallish plant pot, being 10cm (4") diameter and 9cm (3 1/2") depth. Why can't I seem to find this size anywhere? So far I've been to The Garden Superstore, Dobies, Thompson & Morgan, Fothergills, eBay, B&Q, Homebase, Focus, Organic Catalogue, Argos, Wickes, Google... have these pots that we've known and loved all these years now disappeared completely?!

  Price is also an issue, I need 100 pots or so. Focus sold some pots that were a similar size but it would cost me over £30 to get 100. Ebay has 70 pots that are the squat version (too small) for £3.75 with free p+p!

  If anyone has any clue to where they've vanished to, please could you let me know! Many thanks.  ;D

Have you joined the local Freecycle group? I've seen several messages lately offering free plant pots. You can post a WANTED message too , but Freecycle etiquette requires that you post an OFFERED message first.

  Thanks for your reply. I'm a member of freecycle and have already offered, but I don't have transport and for the amount of pots I need, I can imagine I'd be running all over the place. Maybe I'll try it if all else fails!

Maybe if you offer some produce in return, they would deliver. I've found freecyclers to be a kindly bunch of people in general.

Have you tried Wilkinsons? If indeed you have one near you!

I have some 4" and they are 99p for ten.

Local nursery's leave them out for free normally.  ;D ;D ;D

I use polypots, which are little plastic bags with holes punched in,
you can get more pots into a normal seed tray than round ones, as
they can be formed into square shapes if not filled excessively.

I get loads of pots from my local garden centre too, but they tend
to have mainly small ones. 3 to 4 inches at most.

I got loads from Freecycle yesterday. Big black bag full. Need them as myself, sarah and another marmie are holding plant stall at school fair this year and i just won't have enough so good as reserves for all. Especially as we won't get them back!
Wilkinsons or poundland are usually pretty good. Can't believe B&Q don't have them though.

Pop down your local parks and gardens depot. They usually have to dump all their pots after planting out all their bedding and planting schemes. A few cans of beer to the right bloke will keep you in pots for life.

Right, after a little hunting, I have the bargain-of-a-lifetime... over 280 (used) pots for £2.70 on eBay!
