I really don't want to ask but...
« on: April 28, 2007, 22:19:15 »
I have to! I've looked in all my books and nowhere can i find what to do if you plant all your spuds, lose your lottie, get a new one and have to start again.
Is it just too late or can i bung some in? Everything else I know I can get away with apart from onions i s'pose but the spuds is bothering me!!
Feel like such a wally but don't want to go ahead if there is really no point.
The ones on the old plot are sprouting greenery and seem to be going for it, so these would be about 4 weeks behind.
Gaaagh.

Do it Emmy we planted some in June once. yeild wasn't fantastic but ok I would plant second early rather than a main season, A Charlotte perhaps, they grow quite big if left a while XX Jeannine .You can do your onions too if you buy plants from the garden centre or on line.

when did you plant them?

If its in the last 2-3 weeks you might be ok to move the main crops.

I would still plant a 2nd early, Kestrel. Some people use this as a first main crop too. Failing that then a main crop should suffice. Something like Cara or verity that are a late main crop would not harvest till Oct/Nov. I only planted these 2 varieties out last weekend.

I still haven't planted out my King Edwards and Golden Wonder yet - will be doing it in the next couple of days. I always plant this late, and always get a decent crop.

I planted both mine (earlies and mains) only 2 or so weeks ago, and they're already starting to peep through, so I would say you're still just fine for time.

I'm also transplanting volunteer potatoes which keep appearing in last year's bed into buckets, and they're doing OK too.  :)
Tread softly, for you tread on my greens.
