Topic: ants in the home

An orchid plant I bought seems to have come with an ant colony! I've tried ant traps but they don't seem to be effective. The ants have since moved location to our kitchen. I've taken everything out but can't find where they live. They seem to know what I'm up to!  ::)Any advice please?

We had an ant problem at home, and found the answer on QVC by accident.
Take one level teaspoon of Boric Acid powder, same amount of jam and the same amount of dog/cat food. Mix together and place it where you see the ants. Don't be alarmed at the number of ants attracted to it, they in turn will take it back to their nesting area and then they will start to disappear.
The Boric Acid can be purchased at chemists for under a pound. ;) ;)

we were told borax, icing sugar and water, just enough to make 'icing', same thing, they take it home, then don't come back  :)

So i presume this is similar  to the "Nippon Gel " (not the powder version)which they also take back to the colony which works very well for around a quid.

Borax works well; I've used a little mixed with a dollop of jam several times. If it's covered with something flat, ants will take it but bees will be safe.

French chalk (talcum powder) seems to deter the blighters, we have a colony under the concrete floor of our bungalow. They come out in three rooms, kitchen- we use talc, dining room and lounge- I inject parrafin into the cavities.

We have a big problem with ants at home, did have last year too!

Is borax safe to use round small children??  One who has just started crawling and is into everything!  I'm guesing it isnt?

I have an ant problem, I left out a pint glass with some koppaberg pear cider in it. Came down in the morning to find the entire glass filled with dead ants.
better than any ant trap I have used.
These are not too bad as they are black ants.

stick the saucer with the borax under the washing machine, fridge or cooker, that's the only way I could do it when mine were small  :)

I always use NIPON, incredibly effective.

I'm pretty sure Nippon is borax. It certainly works in the same way.

Some muppet pebble dashed the back of our house decades before we bought it..
The sand base is ideal for ants on a warm south facing wall... every time we have work done they find a new way in... I only really don't like it when the flying ants invade a room!
