Advice for a school vegetable garden please
« on: May 10, 2007, 22:41:06 »
A firend of mine is part of a group which has been given the go ahead to start a vegetable plot at school for kids with learning difficulties and she needs some advice from experts as to how to proceed, especially given that there will be little or no supervision of the plot during the school summer hols.  I've already suggested an irrigation system and early and late cropping veggies but I'm no expert and would appreciate your help.

There are several keen gardeners on the staff and the area is fenced off now and they are starting to grow things in pots, but really it will be next school year before anything significant happens.   Any tips for planning and rotations would be helpful and also any ideas for raising extra funds at their launch evening in June.

Have a look at Garden Organic's pages for schools -- you may find some useful guidance there. They have lots of downloadable leaflets here: http://www.gardenorganic.org.uk/schools_organic_network/resources/leaflets.php
and teachers' and students' notes too.

Good starting point, maybe?

Thanks very much.  I'll pass that on.
