Topic: ring culture for tomatoes

 i cant get to my allotment greenhouse everyday to water, but have been advised to try ring culture.my question  is when you plant the tomato into the bottomless pot do you plant it at the bottom into the green house border soil and fill the pot up the stem or do you first fill the bottomless pot and plant the tomato in the top of the pot?

You plant the tom into the top of the ring....you then feed into the ring and water into the  greenhouse border soil, enriched with water-retaining stuff like muck....toms grown this way develop beaut. roots. 8)

Yes! but around the edges not on the stem!

If I planted my toms in one of those lovely big buckets from asda and then put  them outside a third down into a richly manured trench would the results be better than just putting them in the ground outside Am going to try some that way anyway

Growing them that way will help to prevent them being blown over in high winds!

Plus it will keep the root system cooler and less prone to drying out.
