norfolklass:
just popped into "The Works" cheapy cheapsville discount book shop in my lunch hour, and found myself in the gardening section ::)
came away with Dr Hessayon's Fruit Expert for £2 (was £6.99) and Gardener's Question Time Plant Chooser for £6 (was £25) ;D ;D

they've got loads more hardbacks reduced from £20-25 to £5 including:
Pippa Greenwood's Gardening Year (which we, my book design colleagues and I, designed and set – very exciting! ;D)
Gardener's Question Time, 50 Years of
The Garden at Highgrove
and Dr Hessayon's Greenhouse Expert, also £2

have never looked through a Dr Hessayon before: am blown away by the amount of info, and lots of drawings and photos too – so useful for newbies!!! will be keeping my eyes peeled for the Veg Expert

caroline7758:
Some people don't like Dr Hessayon because he's not organic, but I've used his veg book more than any other because it gives so much detail on spacing, timing etc.

redimp:
Chemical Ali we call him but the books are useful :)

caroline7758:
Wasn't sure he was a real person until I read in an rhs magazine recently that he'd been given an award!

Amazin:
... he used to go fly fishing with J R Hartley!

Speaking of the Works, I got a brilliant book in there not too long ago called Botanica - info on 10,000 garden plants and how to cultivate them. Some silly price like £15, as I recall.
