Seedling Quandry
« on: March 01, 2007, 10:22:38 »
I have this every year, and still am not sure what to do!

Put 20 seeds in compost, cover seeds, put in bag on windowsill. Notice one or 2 have germinated and are reaching for the skies! (small tiny seedlings we are talking here!)

So the question is, do you leave them with the bag on hoping the other come through before these 2 have gotten too leggy, or do you take the bag off risking losing the other 18?

Just an annual dilemma!! ;D ;D

I think we all must get that from time to time and the descision ultimately rests with the grower.

Personally I give them another two or three days in there initial position and usually a few more come through.

If the situation does not come up  to to expectations i.e. only a few more come through I prick these out before they become leggy, and put the container back in the propagator.

I leave the bag on for a few more days, but put a bit of warm water in the tray to help speed things up

Well this lot have a couple more days and then the bag comes off!!

Tee gee, if it is only the 2, shall prick em out and pop the bag back on!

Thanks chaps
