Hi everyone,

my pumkin plant is only now setting fruit - is there any chance of getting useable fruit of it or is it too late in the season ?

I live in south of Scotland.

This is only my second year with pumkins - last year I had fruit much, much earlier.

Must be our lovely !! weather this year.

Useable for eating or making Jack-o-lanterns? And what kind are they? I'm no expert but the experts will need to know this!!  :)

You can eat the immature fruits, but with pumpkins I don't know if they are like courgettes or not.  Jeannine will know.  There is still time to get okay sized fruits when you think you leave them to it until October time.

Leave them as long as you can, you can eat the immature fruit, even if very tiny, I have collected a pot full of babies no bigger than a tiny new potato and stir fried them or steamed them whole,you can even eat the blossoms, they are good stuffed. Bear in mind they will not keep like their big brothers and used to be used. Also bear in mind that most pumpkins don't have the flavour that some other squash have. XX Jeannine

Personaly  I do not want to make you down hearted but the fact is no.

The year we have had this year is terrible.

You are not the only one who has failed :P

Sorry I cannot help more but the best advice is to plan and prepare for next year.
