Capillary matting substitute?
« on: February 26, 2007, 12:49:02 »
Is there any material you would recommend as a cheap (or free) alternative to capillary matting? I want it for using with one of those self-watering propagators.

Would old blanket work?

Probably nothing would be as efficient but I do know that, when I careleesly draped my apron over a plant tray that had water in it. all the water was syphoned out & ruined an antique table!!

The big thing about the real stuff is that it has a 'lift' of 4".

Yes, I was thinking along the same lines, maybe an old towel or jumper?
