When do you take seeds out of propagator?
« on: February 21, 2007, 16:28:37 »
I ask this question because I've had some pepper seeds in a propagator, and two of the five came up.
I know seedlings will get too leggy if they're too warm, but the remaining three seeds haven't appeared yet.
Do I take them out of the propagator or leave them in till all seeds are up? The propagator is not in a very light place.
I think I've just answered my own question  :o :o I've moved it to a lighter place.

Take the 2 thats germinated out and pop them on a sunny windowsill. Check the others every 10 minutes or so like i do.

I didn't realise the heat made them leggy, I must take mine out then.
They are a bit tall for their height.  :D

All mine seem to go leggy- I plan to plant them deep when they are big enough to handle.

They don't get leggy because they're warm. They get leggy because they're looking for light. Move them to a windowsill but watch out for night temp drops.

I think people try too hard to get things going too early. The propagator is great for getting things to germinate but that's all I use it for.

I take mine out as soon as they germinate, I then leave them for a couple of days in the heated conservatory then out to the slightly heated greenhouse with fleece at night - all going well so far but i am worried about sharp frosts.
