Reclamation project
« on: February 20, 2007, 11:24:52 »
This is the half-way point of a project we started on our allotment recently.  There's a large area of 'waste' ground behind the sheds and we decided to recover it.  These pictures were taken a short while ago just as we were making the path along the top.  Click images to enlarge.

(Dad only for illustration purposes, not for sale).

And these were taken yesterday when I'd finished the path and dug the small beds out.  The scuffy patch in the bottom left is going to be a BBQ area, and the patch at the end will be a pond/wildlife refuge.  There's going to be a big coldframe behind the shed where the small one is in the pics.

I'll post more pics when we've finished.  :)

Bring me a lamb (sorry) or chestnuts.

It's just a strong steel cage that was on the plot when we first got it.  One of the sides unhinges and folds out.  I've seen them elsewhere but I can't bring it to mind.  Maybe it's one of those annoying middle-of-the-aisle jobbies that you get in supermarkets sometimes? :-\  All the wood used for the path edging came from a skip across the road from our house and the shredded trees are delivered free to our allotments.

A trip to Aldi on Thursday should see me coming back with a few fruit trees to take up some of the empty space with.  :)

Yeah, I got about £100 worth of (admittedly damp) timber, 3 black bins, hosepipe and about 50 perfectly good bricks.  The stuff these builders throw away!  ???  Not that I'm complainig, mind!  :)

What a difference.  Hell of a lot of hard work there.  Now, I have a rough old patch at the back of my shed.  Can I borrow you for a day or 2?   ;D

One on my lottie too!
That looks brill druid-nice work. No-one is going to come along and say actually, you can't have this land are they? Now you've cleared it it may look more attractive to whoever let it go to waste!
Don't throw paper away. There is no away.

No, it's safe.  It's on our plot, but behind the sheds and greenhouses.  Dunno why it wasn't cultivated before, but I'm glad it's there!  :)

Brill! all yours then. Probably too much for previous tenant and that's why it got left. You'll be the envy of all who just need that little bit more space!!  ;D

I have the advantage in the my lottie is located in one giant skip, the village i live in is still being built ( about 1500 houses to go ) so there are tons of building sites around. I have about another 5 years of being able to get this kind of stuff.

I have been able to contact all the building sites and have the direct phone numbers of at least one man in each so if i ever need anything i just make a few calls and a JCB turns up with what i need.

That said i need to be careful that i dont ask to often and sometimes depending on where the building is and whats happening i might also need to transport it or they just dont have what i need.

I usualy get pallets delivered maybe 30 or so at a time

bricks - cant get unfortunatly

lenths of wood i can usualy get but its rarly pressurised

But is also means when houses are being decorated we get large off cuts of carpet, tiles etc..
