First spuds are in!
« on: February 18, 2007, 15:57:40 »
We are experimenting! Barrie has put in 12 International Kidneys under a cloche. Never grown this variety before, and have never put spuds in so early. So lets seewhat happens.

I haven't even bought mine yet! Last year I think I was a bit over-optimistic/enthusiastic and am holding back for a fortnight and reading the weather forecasts with a bit more caution!

I brought that spud variety as well, i'm looking forward to jersey royals this summer. Was thinking I may put some of mine in this early too maybe in a couple of weeks.

RR,

You can't call them Jersey Royals - you'll have the Euro thought police on to you.

Technically, only International Kidneys grown on Jersey can be called Jersey Royals

One theory is that the flavour of them came from the liberal use of seaweed in their cultivation.

Phil

But I'm sure your International Kidneys will taste good - especially if you use some seaweed meal or liquid!!

I'm putting them in at easter too.  I had my leggy early runner beans laughed off the allotment last week so I'm going to bite my lip and be patient from now on. ('did you grow them on the radiator... when did you sow them... August? lol)

Still too early for me, the grounds too wet and too cold. Got a few going in pots and black buckets in compost as a tester. ;D ;D ;D
MAY THE CORN BE WITH YOU.
