Where do you buy your seed potatoes?
« on: February 12, 2007, 17:38:04 »
I can't think of a single garden centre/nursery in my area (North East Lincs)that might sell anything other than shrubs and packet seeds so it looks like I shall be buying online.

Can you recommend anywhere? Or is there a thread I have missed (I am still getting to grips with the search facility!) ;D
Thanks

Lots of threads just scroll down to page two or three on edible....
There doesn't seem to be a potato day out your way. I get mine from a local GC @£3 for three kilos.
 ;D

If you have a Poundland shop near to you they could be worth a visit. Our store at the Metro Center in Gateshead had various types, and of course were....a pound. ;)

Was everything in the shop a pound :D?

I don't think we have a Poundland - the closest we have is In Store that used to be Poundstretcher, not the same but you never know, I will try them all!

Well I was on the plot this morning, and mentioned to some committee members that I was going to buy some rooster at the local market - they have a seed stall. In unison, they all told me to buy them from Morrisons, which is adjacent to the allotments. They are UK grown, and told they chit ok. I bought two kilos to start, I will lift out the larger ones for eating, and keep the smaller for chitting. I am normally reluctant to buy other than seed potatoes, but the available stall is a very long walk !

Derek :)

I've just contacted Thomson & Morgan about my order for 2 seed potato collections I placed last year.

Apparently they were sent (along with a "Plant House") last November, and they've no trace of what might have happened to them  ???

Some spudshoot covered truck driving around somewhere.

They're being re-sent though, so the recreation of "Alien" in the attic returns for another year.   ;)

Edwin Tuckers, Charlton Park Seed potatoes or any of a dozen or so - Tuckers are not doing Roosters this year so getting mine from Charlton Park - loads cheaper than T&M. Homebase and so on very limited so I would definately recommend Tuckers.
Favourites, anyone. Mine are Kestrel (always), Red Duke of York, Pink Fir and Roosters. Rubbish - ratte, a million marble sized tubers.

By the time you've payed postage for most of these online places you end up spending about a tenner on a bag of seed potatos.

I always try to get them locally or locally'ish.
