......so what is this one?

To join Pat, anyone know what this could be? It was taken as a cutting years ago from my grandads garden and he has no idea what it is either! The flowers are delicate pink trumpets, in flower all spring into summer with the strongest scent I know - tis gorgeous! I keep it trimmed back, but it currently stands about 5 foot. It is not evergreen and the new stems are quite red in colour. We wondered if it were a daphne, but can't find anything similar in our books.

That is lovely EJ - haven't seen it before so haven't a clue what it is :-\ No doubt the experts among us will be able to help you :) Hope you have better luck with yours, still struggling with mine. Have all my gardening books to hand but still can't find an answer :(

I am stumped
Leaves look either like a spirea or hypericum but the flowers look like neither plant.
Could it be a weigelia?

Your wish is my command Eric.
Hard to really see as my beds are crammed. Defo isn't evergreen. The scent is out of this world!

Sorry, should have said a closer photo. It would help if we could see the inside of the flower and the leaf shape and way they fasten to the stems.

hehehehe, okay dokey Eric, I shall do it tomorrow as the neighbours might think UFO's are landing if I nip out in the garden now and start taking photos.

The above picture is of Lonicera syringantha, which starts flowering about bnow and goes on till July. It is extremely well scented. As far as I can remember Weigelia is much larger flowered and non scented.

Finally, I have taken some close ups - I think it is what you said Eric, but now you can cast your expert eye over once more to confirm for me. ;D
(sorry if they are a little out of focus - shakey hands...need more caffine!)

Thanks Eric, I have sent Grandad a very smug email telling him the name of the shrub and giving you all the credit. He now thinks I mix in very educated circles. ;D ;) ;D

You could show him these, all Lonicera.
L .Claveys Dwarf (we think). L involucrata and L.tatarica. We have a couple of others L. korolkowii and a nameless species but they are not in flower yet.
