Antidote for rat poison!
« on: January 16, 2007, 15:33:07 »
Hello :)

called the council rat man out today, as have found droppings in my shed and compost heap in the garden. He said that as the rat has been eating potato peelings out of the compost bin, and probably storing them up to eat later, the poison may not work. Potato peelings are high in vitamin K, which is the antidote to rat poison :-\

Just thought I'd tell you all , see if you have any opinions :)

Are they that high in the vitamin? I thought it needed a massive dose to counteract the poison.

Interesting.  We have a rat family living in our lottie heap and shed, altho I am hoping I have made it harder for them to come back into my shed by plugging holes.  When I emptied the shed and moved things around looking for holes, I found lots of empty corn on the cobs which they had nicely piled up!  Sneaky critters!

The best poison for rats is lead. It needs very careful use, you need to apply it very accurately, WITH AN AIR RIFLE. At least it doesn't hurt any other animals.
