Finding 2nd hand Greenhouses
« on: November 24, 2006, 19:22:51 »
I've been looking for a greenhouse for some time.  A few years ago you couldn't give them away, but now they go on ebay for significant amounts of money.

However, I have found several sites where greenhouses are being offered "free to collector", or at very low prices and I think its worth checking them out from time to time.

You probably have to move fast as I expect people are collecting then selling on ebay.

http://www.friday-ad.co.uk  seems to be a lot in Hampshire free or at low prices and you can put in a saved search.

Good luck to everyone looking

Thanks for that MattD

I have bookmarked the sites and will give it further investigation when I have time.  Are you aware of the Recycle sites - not sure of their email address but plug in recycle now and it should come up - just choose which area you are in and voila. You can get some stuff for free off there.

Thanks again

Jitterbug, I've been looking on Freecycle for months but everyone seems too keen there and the few that do appear go instantly.

Several more free or cheap greenhouses went up on Friday-ads in the last few days but they're all too far away for me to make the trip.

My wife says I'm mad to tell everyone else about Friday-ads until I've sorted myself out, but I know that somewhere there is a free greenhouse with my name on it.

Matt D,
        Thanks for those sites,
I'm having the same problems as you with free cycle.

I was recently having problems with B&Q deliveries, and the long story short,
I waited 5months for a delivery that was promised within 6 weeks.
Anyway the store manager offered me a greenhouse that had been made for a customer but was too big for the space she had for £300 ,  it was
supposed to be £700.
Unfortunately I didnt have the £300 so hade to decline,
The moral of this boring story is..........Go round all the local DIY stores,
talk to the managers, or even the supervisers,       You Never Know

Hi

Now i am a cheaky sod, so i would have said that i wanted some time to think about it and would have asked for a week.

I would i have also asked for details inc a picture and measurements.

I would have then stuck it on ebay with a minimum sale price of £300 buyer collect and pocketed the difference if it did not sell i would just cancel the order.

Cambourne7,
I can not believe that I didn't think of that one,
I think I will take a wee trip to B&Q in January, after the baby's born ,
and remind the manager that he still owes me.
(I'm a cheeky sod too)

Thanks for that one,
I'll let you know how I get on. (Well you dont ask ,you dont get)

I actually put a 'wanted' listing on my local Freecycle and someone emailed me. I wasn't hopeful but you never know, and got lucky! (You do have to offer something on Freecycle before you can ask for something.)

Tina.

As well as posting wanted ads on freecycle have you tried www.dontdumpthat.co.uk.  At work we have a for sale/wanted bit on the monthly newsletter which we get via the intranet, if you haven't already got one try doing that.  The other good source is via the church newsletter, often older folk are reducing their workload in the garden and would welcome the chance to offload without any probs attached.
