The Yahoo toolbar or whatever it's called, hasn't downloaded itself has it? I believe it can/could do unless you specifically uncheck a box. Don't know the code names for any of these things though.

Launch messenger.
Go the messenger menu item at the top and then Preferences. On the General setting you'll find a box you can untick to stop messenger launching automatically.

I've got a similar problem with Picasa which I downloaded to try & resize pics to post on here, at first it worked then it didn't so I uninstalled the programme but it keeps appearing at startup, I can't find it in the start menu & it makes my computer take ages to boot up.
Sorry Mr P didn't mean to hijack your thread but thought you had the answer by now & my prob seems pretty similar. :)

Try an installer such as CCleaner, this should rid you of the problem.
Google search for this.

CCleaner is super duper, I use it all the time but one has to know how to use it first and not just install and let rip else changes might be made that are not wanted.

Mr P, try
Start Menu
Settings
Task Bar & Start Menu
Click Start Menu Tab
Customise (I think, depending on which version of Windows you are using)
Remove, Scroll down until you see
Start Up, double click on it and if there is a Yahoo in there, highlight it and click the
Remove icon
If this doesn't work and the advice by Plot73 doesn't work then I surely is baffled!
