Just a wee bit naughty?

"Update ready" - OK, must be up to date - download - uh, oh!, it's IE7, the no-no thing!

No place to cancel so quick switch off.

Did I do right?

It's best not to download the latest version  of anything Microsoft for ages. People rush to get the latest Messnger, IE or whatever, only to act as unpaid guinea pigs. IE7 still has a long way to go before it's problem free.

I 'declined' the latest update, ie IE7 by the same method, terminated the download, until I am happy that it appears to be problem free ... a few months should rectify that since it is a standard update now.
The impossible is just a journey away ...

My experience...................offered and downloaded the latest IE7 as I like to always keep my laptop up to date (silly me perhaps?) everything worked fine until Monday night when my pc froze and shut down and then wouldnt restart even in safe mode luckily I have a helpful independant Pc chappie who looked at it and said it was an issue with my Norton and IE7 he sorted it out for me for a small charge and its working fine now.

Before anyone points out Nortons faults and drain on my laptop I have always used it and probaly always will.

Next time I won't hurry to download any IE update.
Hope this acts as a warning to someone so they don't end up in my situation.

We installed IE7 throughout the office about 3 weeks ago. No problems yet, but we are running XP Pro which I think is more robust than XP Home.

Mind you, I still prefer Firefox.

Tim,
IE7 has issues - no doubt about it!

If you have down loaded it like me how do you revert back to the former if I do have any problems with it or, am I stuck with it now.

If you go into control panel and add or remove programs, you can uninstall IE7 and it is automatically reverts to IE6, at least, my PC did when I did that.

I was warned about Norton many years ago by colleagues in our computer group, I went for Kapersky and have never regretted it.

Downloaded IE7, Tim, getting on with it OK.
Mind you, have disabled a lot so that it resembles IE6. :-)
Have got rid of the tabs, can't see what they do, and the phishing part slowed the computer.
Kept some of the Explorer buttons and added a few extra to Google Toolbar.
The RSS would be useful but Google Reader is less hassle....and so on.

Firefox works fine for me,
I only keep internet explorer for pages that don't work in firefox.

I have found firefox alot better,
it also has tabbed browsing which I find really useful,
but then I look at alot of pages at once

OH swears by IE7 and hasn't had any problems .... so far!

I swear by Firefox and have avoided the IE7 download by constant vigilence.

The one thing I did like about IE7 (when OH installed in on a friend's computer over Christmas) was the handly little zoom facility in the bottom righthand corner where you can increase the zoom on the page by the tap of the mouse.  A real help to the visually challenged amongst us.

As for Norton's ................. each to their own.

In Firefox hold down the ctrl buton and hit ++

eg CTRL++

I find holding down the Ctrl tab and using the wheel on the mouse easier

oh wow !!!  I knew about the wheely thing on the mouse, but it didn't work on some sites for me, but the other tips are just great.

I can read now without having to go in search of the glasses.
