Topic: Hawthorn variety?

The picture on the right is a standard haw taken from our hedgerow. The ones on the left are from a tall tree in the garden which I must have planted at some time, from its position. The difference in fruit size is staggering. anyone any knowledge of a large fruited Hawthorn? It is not Pual's Double Scarlet, that is elsewhere in the garden.

Short answer no, but if you know where I can get a midland red (flowered) hawthorn...

My allotment site. There are about two or three, and the only time I can spot them among the multitude of hawthorns is when they're in flower. What's the best way to propagate them; do they come easily from cuttings?

Hawthorns are either grown from seed (sown as soon as the fruit turns red) if they are species or grafted onto straight C. monogynus if forms like Paul's Scarlet.

Same here Rob, keep saying I will mark one when itis in flower and go back for some cuttings at the end of the year!

They do not root from cuttings so you are wasting your time!

Well at least I haven't wasted my time then.... will get a refresher in grafting...

Saddle graft appears to be the recommended.
