Topic: Can I still sow poppies?

Hey!

I'm going to finish putting topsoil in my raise beds by the end of this week. Most poppies can be sown in september straight into the soil outdoors. Do you think because we've had such a mild october and are forcasted to have a milder inwter than usual that it's still ok to plant some poppies now?

Judging by the weeds that have germinated in the last few weeks I would think so Wahaj

really? i thought you can sow the hardy varieties now....they germinated and stay small...till spring when they put their growth spurt on....and flower earlier than spring sown ones?

I think you will find that it is sunlight levels that germinate poppy seed seed. That is why they start popping up when the seed is disturbed by ploughing. The Flanders poppys only started after the fields were churned up with shelling.

I do not think they will start germinating until the days start getting longer.
