and saw their strawberry planter. It had lots of runners, so I asked if I could take some, well here's fingers crossed for next years crop... but should I put them in the cold frame?

Ours are left out but ew make sure they root down into 3" pots before we cut them off the parent plant... if you have just cut them you may loose some especially if the dry out...

I lost patience with my plants last week, and severed all the runners, potted them up into 3" pots, and put them on gravel trays on the bottom shadier tier of my greenhouse ; only one has failed to make a bit of new growth so far- I'd go for it!! ; :)
