aubergines - again..... sorry!
« on: September 18, 2006, 15:52:04 »
Hi,

I know I have seen this on here a while back but cannot remember the answer or find it in a search.....

how do you tell when an aubergine is ready for picking?

I have one (only got 1 from 3 plants - hence timing is of the essence) which is about 6 inches long, about 2-3 inches thick and shiny black.

thanks

Marymary

Sounds about ready to me though they seem to keep for a while on the plant.

If you leave it too long, the seeds can get woody.

When the skin looses its shine you've probably left it too long!

Great - right answer everyone, will pick it tonight.

have a friend coming for tea who is vegetarian so was going to make proper ratatouille for her.

it is still shiny so will hopefully not be woody.
