apple juice good for you?!!
« on: August 28, 2006, 10:05:15 »
Just came across this http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/glasgow_and_west/5291150.stm on the beeb news website - they think that cider could be good for you! Shame it is up in Scotland and not near me - I like a good excuse to drink a pint of cider.  ;D

Drinking cider never did me any good..... mind you we only ever really managed to get hold of proper rough scrumpy in plastic bottles that my mate's dad made on their farm.

All it ever did for me was give me chronic room-spin, a near-death experience hangover, and worst of all, at the end of an evening on the stuff, it made all the local lads look gorgeous. Good job I left for Uni when I did really!!! :o

I had one experience like that in my first year at university. Never touched the stuff since!

Ah, that must have been the stuff which was not considered ready for drinking until all the flesh from the dead rat had dissolved then!

Unfermented freshly squeezed apple juice is far less likely to cause any problems like that though.

PMSL that really made me laugh. We tried to make cider once but it turned out very insipid and a bit urghhhh really.

I went to college in Bath and always used to pick up a gallon of that on sabbing exhibitions.  Had a couple of near death experiences before the hangover had time to kick in - once stupidly snakebit the lot with super strength lager.  Those were the days ::)  Still love proper rough cider though rather than the stuff that comes out of the kegs that tastes like it was made by ICI.

I was sick after consuming large amounts of either diamond white or K - can't remember which - was the only cider this particular bar had. Regret it now.
I like Westons & Thatchers apple juices. I recently went to a Wetherspoons and tried the Swedish fruity ones (Kopparbergs?) and found those to be rather yummy.

I went to the launch of Diamond White at Taunton Cider (at least I think it was the launch, i really have no idea) - even now after this many years my eyeballs start to ache with the memory. Looking back, I seem to have spent a greater part of my later teens under the influence of apple juice related alchohol.... still happy days  ;D  ;D
