How do you make a greenhouse safe ?
« on: September 07, 2006, 08:51:26 »
 :-\

Just looking for tips on making a horticultural (spelling??) greenhouse safe.

I was thinking of changing the glass later on to ploy sheets but just heard that this is not a good idea as the real glass works better.

So whats the best way to me the greenhouse safe for kids.

I went for the more expensive option of using toughened safety glass so if the glass does break it does not form sharp shards.

So far so good.

Hubby paid extra for toughened safety glass when he bought me a green house. Safer for the grandchildren. Survived them and me triping up and landing on the side of it

You can also get a type of film which sticks to the glass and makes it safe if it shatters.  Don't know how expensive it is but I was looking into it when I was hoping to get hold of a greenhouse.

education!  However, I have flower borders around 2 sides, a fence against the other.  The flower borders have bamboos planted so the lovely dappled light still fills my greenhouse, but it also prevents balls hitting the glass.

Along EJ's theme, I am making screens (rigid wire mesh from Wilkos stapled to batons) which will go outside my greenhouse. I plan to grow sweetpeas up it next year as 'living shading'. Something similar would also protect the glass -  and your children?
