Raspberry canes
« on: August 21, 2006, 11:01:23 »
Hi.  I have just been given the go ahead on my new plot.  Is it ok to order raspberry canes, and put them in now?  Ditto for strawberries and thames gold plum tree.

Many thanks.

Autumn is usually the best time for planting and transplanting as the plants will conentrate on root production rather than top growth and will also need less watering.   Go ahead and order but ask for delivery end of September or October while the soil is still warm and moistened by the rain.   That gives you time to prepare the soil and dig in lots of lovely compost or well-rotted manure.
