2006 Carrots
« on: August 03, 2006, 01:06:59 »
Started a new topic as I couldn't find a carrot one for this year, hope I didn't miss it.

Cosmic Purple.

Very tasty, much sweeter than standard carrots.

You wanna see the real big ones SS I couldn't even get them home in the barra. No seriously I did put too many seeds in and as is always the case they all came up. They were fleeced until a month ago to keep the fly away.

Most people struggle to grow carrots on our site other than at competitive level. The allotments either side of me seem to have grown them ok. As this is my first year since moving and clearing the current plot, I will have another go next year. May make a bed and cover it to protect from carrotfly

I grow my carrots in among my onions, it is supposed to help concerning carrot fly. I don't seem to suffer anyway ... not had a massive crop this year, but did exceptionally well last year ...

Early & lates between onions? Or does it not matter. Will try it next year. Would love to have one come through let alone loads. Hopefully soil on new plot is fine. Looks good anyway.

Well I hope it works well for you. I must be honest, my first two years growing carrots were pretty dismal results, I cannot say why, because I don't think I did anything different. All I can guess is that it took two years to work the soil into a decent state ...
