I have found it easy to grow. You can grow from seed or buy crowns which are 1 year old. I got some from my local Garden Centre and some from the Organic Catalogue, but there are loads of online suppliers. You shouldn't start cropping until it is at least in its 3rd year.

How patient is patient though Tim?

we planted some asparagus crowns about 4 months ago - painstakingly dug trenches, followed Joy Larkcom to the letter and not a dickie bird? should we give up and fill the trench in, every one keeps joking it is a grave!

Same here. A few of them eventually did come up, and are now growing through my West Indian pumpkins. I suppose I'll have to get more this winter to fill the gaps.

Same here. The row which started with four plants out of eleven in February is still sprouting new spears from the plants I'd given up on. What have they been doing all this time ???
