Current situation
« on: July 09, 2006, 08:02:21 »
Found masses of aphid on the aubs this am - much squidging! Thought I was going to get away with it.

And there've been some spots on the cu leaves - so those have come off.

Funny that the 'fly has never hit us - (shhhhh!) - just RSM & Aphid.

Red? Maybe I can just slip this one in? Quite early, very reliable & even, good flavour. Nectar.

I know where your at Tim!

Aubergines like Peppers are very susceptible to white fly, and as I said in the 'Pepper' thread I keep the atmosphere quite humid until the flowers have set then ventilate.

Trouble is tomatoes like good ventilation all the time.

You having such a long greenhouse makes this difficult.

I have my 28ft greenhouse sectioned off i.e. split into three so I can create 'rooms' that be treated differently.

I have attached a picture that hopefully shows you what I mean.

In this case (because I am growing tomatoes) you can just see the framing, but when I am growing say peppers etc I pin clear plastic to the frames with drawing pins and form enclosures.

Perhaps you could consider doing something similar.

Aha! Seem to remember that from earlier views.

I might. But then again, I might just find I'm too old!!

If I ever grow plants even half as good as that I will be well chuffed.
Make the most of today, because you'll never have it back again.

I might. But then again, I might just find I'm too old!!

Somehow I doubt that Tim  :P

I FEEL old this morning, spend all weekend shifting wet clay, removing raised/sunken bed wooden frame edges, replacing and flattening wet clay to accommodate new g/h.

Give me a pack of drawing pins any day.

valmarg - I'm now getting a wee bit embarrassed!

It's rather like TG's in size? My Mother bought it for us when she came to live with us in 1975, to store her furniture in.

It's an Alton - 30'x12' with 12 side vents & 8 auto-openers. They only do 10' ones now. Cost £200. Checked today & it would now be £4550!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry I mentioned it.

Nothing to be embarassed about Tim.  It's obviously put to good use (other than storing furniture)!!

Having shown OH the first picture on this topic, I have been given a lecture about maximising space in the greenhouse.  Ours is 12' wide, and your arrangement of three beds, with two paths certainly seems to make the most of the space.  Do you ever have any staging in?

It was gales - plus, it hadn't been fully glazed, and we hadn't yet screwed it down to its foundations :-[ :'( luckily thanks to neighbours not too much harm done and it's a joy now

my new one has had it's base buried, pegged and concreted in but comes with these greally groovy catches so if i were to ever move, the base could stay but the greenhouse would be a doddle to take with me!

master greenhouse builder and erector at your service.
