Woodpecker arrived at last
« on: July 07, 2006, 21:49:41 »
About 6 months ago I put some peanuts out in a feeder hung to an old clothes line post in order to attract the woodpecker that I had heard so often in the village.  The pole is a long distance from the house as I know they can be shy birds.  Last week I looked out of my window very early in the morning and saw the greater spotted woodpecker on the nuts.  How thrilled I was that he had arrived in my garden at long last.   ;D ;D

Since then he has been a regular visitor and even been on the nuts nearer the house.  I try to photograph him but he flies off everytime I get the camera out.  However, I did manage to get one shot of him albeit from a distance.  :D

Thats great Pauline, a new visitor to your garden.   I have had one fly thro many times and I keep hoping just like you that it will stop over and feed from my nut feeders.  One day it may decide he likes mine.   He is a regular visitor across the road so a quick hop, skip and jump would suffice..

Good pic.

 ;) ;)

Before long you will have a pair and then you will get them bringing baby to show it how to get the peanuts.
Gardening is the great leveller.
