Topic: ants and maggots

i ve got two compost bins in the garden.
one is colonized by ants and the other has thousands of maggots in it, is this quite normal or not and does it matter?

I think the ants mean it is to dry.  As for the maggots, that must mean you have something dead or decaying in there as I didn't think maggots lived on veggie matter.  I wouldn't worry about the ants, water the heap if you can, but the one with the maggots, I would investigate and see what is causing maggots to hatch and try to get rid of it.

I was told that you need to try to remove most of the ant nest to remove the queen and then the other ants should march off on their own.  The reason you need to do this is that the ants will eat any worm eggs that are laid and therefore worn population will dwindle.

Needless to say I haven't actually done this yet so am not sure if it will work or not  ???
