Too late to sow chilli peppers?
« on: June 29, 2006, 18:16:41 »
The first lot I did seem to have got lost in one of my
mixed
container.  Does any one know if I can start from seed again now?  The packet says 'no'.

I have no idea....would suggest you give it a go.....especially if you have a warm sunny window where they could live at the end of the season. I had fresh peppers and chillis at christmas by doing this.

Otherwise, I have quite a few spare plants......where are you based?

Beg them, borrow them, steal them or buy them. Don't try starting them from seed now, enough of us are struggling with plants that were started months age and are still small.

No harm in trying. Mine were still producing flowers and fruit in the greenhouse in Novemeber last year.

Yep, Florald, but they'd need to be kept indoors.  Do that and you could have chillies at Christmas ;D

I sowed some a couple of weeks back and have just potted up the seedlings.  I do this so I can bring the plants in during November to continue to chilli season, into the chilly season!  ;D

I grow them as normal - sowing in feb and planting out end may.  Harvest throughout summer then hoik a couple of plants out in october and bring them indoors, that way I can pick throughout the winter as well as using them from the freezer, in oil and dried.

Last year I had 4 plants and several hundred chillies, so why why why have I planted 10 this year.....?
Best laid plans and all that
