Chuckens/ducks
« on: June 28, 2006, 13:11:00 »
???Hi All, Hope you can help - I have decided to get some chickens/ducks
I have ordered a run & house suitable for 6 chickens but don't know what breeds to get, and whether to mix chickens & ducks
I really want them as pets rather than egg ;producers- any suggestions please?  ???

Hi prink13,

Have a look at the following thread, especially half way down where ducks are mentioned.

Thanks for that, I'd been told that chooks & ducks are ok together, now need to decide on breeds! :D

dont forget ducks need water!

If you want 'pretty chooks' then pekins, bantam orpingtons and silkies are ideal. for pretty egg layers you can get speckledys, bluebells and black rocks - much cheaper too plus you get eggs! Or you could get a mix of both so that you get plenty of eggs all year round.

www.feathersite.com has a list with pics of all breeds so you can look there.  FOr ducks i like the little call ducks - they are so cute.
