Blackbird Wars
« on: March 22, 2004, 18:41:01 »
This is not an exaggeration!

We have territory wars currently going on between our local blackbirds.

We used to have one regular pair living in the garden. Recently however several more of both genders have appeared and started 'muscling in' on the territory.  This washighlighteed by the 'old' pair trying to chase off the 'New kids on the block' and the newcomers arguing amongst themselves.

I the last week the anti has been upped. The original pair have sadly dispeared to be replaced by the new birds who continue to vie for possession of the garden territory.  At present we have two males 'going hammer and tongs' for possession of both the garden and likely for one of the females, though none of the previously observed females have been sighted. It is possible we now have two nesting pairs competing for the same area.
